Dr. Penny Kris-EthertonDr. Penny Kris-Etherton 

Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, has been on the faculty at Pennsylvania State University since 1979, and has been a Distinguished Professor of Nutrition at Pennsylvania State University since 1996. She is currently a member of The American Dietetic Association, the American Society for Nutrition, the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the Society for Nutrition Education, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, and various American Heart Association Councils, including the AHA Nutrition Committee. In addition, she is on the Board of Women Heart and the National Lipid Association, and serves as President of Shaping America's Health and the Northeast Lipid Association. Dr. Kris-Etherton has served on many prestigious national committees and review panels including the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans Advisory Committee, the National Academy of Sciences Panel on Macronutrients, the American Heart Association Nutrition Committee, NIH's Nutrition Study Section, the National Cholesterol Consulting MonaVie on scientific issues concerning the company and its products.

Dr. Alex Schauss

Dr. Alex Schauss, PhD, FACN, has been the lead scientist in the Natural and Medicinal Products Division of AIBMR Life Sciences, Inc., in Puyallup, Washington, for 27 years. He is Adjunct Research Professor of Botanical Medicine and a former Clinical Professor of Natural Products Research at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Schauss has been a member of the National Institutes of Health, Office of Alternative Medicine Advisory Council, the Ad Hoc Developmental Planning Committee of the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, a reviewer of botanical standards and information monographs for the U.S. Pharmacopoeia Convention, and reviewer for the International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS) database, maintained through the Food and Nutrition Information Center, National Agricultural Library, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and has represented the United States as a voting member of the World Health Organization's Study Group on Health Promotion.

He is the author or co-author of more than 150 papers or works that have appeared in a wide and diverse range of scientific journals. In 2005, Dr. Schauss received the Linus Pauling Lecture Award "for contributions in the medical sciences" from the American College for the Advancement of Medicine. He is listed in Who's Who in America, American Men and Women of Science, International Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Stephen T. Talcott
Dr. Talcott 


is a professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists and is active in the researching, processing, and promoting of fruits and vegetables with bioactive components. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Talcott served as Supervisor of Chemistry at Silliker Laboratories of Texas.

A leading expert on the acai berry, Dr. Talcott has been recognized for his significant contributions in expanding the understanding of the phytochemistry, stability, health benefits, and marketability of acai since 2002. He has published numerous articles on acai as well as over 55 peer-reviewed articles in top level food chemistry journals, over 50 technical abstracts, and six book chapters. Dr. Talcott also specializes in the stability and changes that take place in antioxidant compounds during post-harvest handling, food processing, and storage.

Dr. Nathan Wong

Dr. Nathan D Wong, PhD, M.P.H., is Professor and Director of the Heart DiseaseUniversity of California, Irvine. Dr. Wong is a Fellow of the American Heart Association Council on Epidemiology and Prevention and the American College of Prevention Program, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, Cardiology.

He has authored or edited more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, as well as three textbooks. Dr. Wong serves on the editorial boards of Preventive Cardiology, Journal of the Cardiometabolic Syndrome, and American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs.
